11U Girls Winter Player Development Program, (2025)
Player Development Program
Objectives: To develop a positive playing experience to help players and families engage with basketball.
Personal Values: Commitment, Teamwork, Empathy and Respect
Phase of Play Teaching:
Transition Offence: exploiting a basic numerical advantage (i.e. 2 v 1). Progression up the court in transition (passing ahead, getting ahead).
Offense: Penetrating the defense mainly through 1 v 1, initial getting open, basic spacing.
Transition Defence: Protecting the basket (getting back home)
Defense: Stopping penetration (mostly 1 v 1 defense)
Methods: Conditioned fun games that allow children to understand space, dribble, pass, and shoot—low structure / high freedom (guided discovery). 1 v 1, 2 v 1 situations.
We will also be supporting children to develop a broad range of motor skills such as agility, balance, coordination, speed, and combinations of running, jumping, catching, etc).
The program will run from Saturday, January 11, through Saturday, March 29, 2025.
For: Girls ages 9 to 11 (grades 4 - 6)
Saturdays: 10:30 to noon at the Whistle Bend School
The program will begin on Saturday January 11, 2025
Sessions will occur on the following dates:
Saturdays, Jan. 11, 18, and 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15, and 22; and March 1 and 29
