Player Development Program
Objectives: To develop a positive playing experience to help players and families engage with basketball.
Personal Values: Commitment, Teamwork, Empathy and Respect
Phase of Play Teaching:
Transition Offence: exploiting a fundamental numerical advantage (i.e., 2 v 1). Progression up the court in transition (passing ahead, getting ahead).
Offense: Penetrating the defense mainly through 1 v 1, initial getting open, basic spacing.
Transition Defence: Protecting the basket (getting back home)
Defense: Stopping penetration (mostly one-on-one defense)
Methods: Conditioned fun games that allow children to understand space, dribble, pass, and shoot—low structure / high freedom (guided discovery). 1 v 1, 2 v 1 situations.
We will also be supporting children to develop a broad range of motor skills such as agility, balance, coordination, speed, and combinations of running, jumping, catching, etc).
The program will run from September 21 through December 14, 2024
The session will run on the following days:
Saturdays: Beginning Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024
10:00 AM – 10:50 AM
Where: Canada Games Center
The session will occur on the following Saturdays:
September: 21, and 28
October: 5, 12, 19
November: 9, 16, 23,
December: 7, and 14
Sessions will not run on the following dates: October 26, November 2, and November 30th
Enter via Fieldhouse and exit by Flexihall.
Narrow hallways have single-lane access, so please plan your transitions appropriately.
You can come dressed and ready to play to avoid using changing rooms.
Parents are welcome to join us in court.
